Breaking Free From the Shadows of the Past

At times, I felt like life never gave me a fair chance, as if my struggles were pre-written. Growing up, my parents’ mental health challenges cast a heavy shadow, leaving me lost and burdened by uncontrollable circumstances. For years, I believed I was flawed—like a failed experiment. But I’ve realized these feelings, while valid, don’t define me or my potential. The pain shaped me, but it doesn’t limit me. Healing is hard, but my worth isn’t tied to the chaos I was born into—it’s in the strength I’ve found to move forward. If you’ve ever felt this, know you’re not alone, and hope is within reach.

Beyond the ordinary

The Serenity Prayer: A Deeply Personal Meaning

The Serenity Prayer holds a profound place in my heart, not only for its universal message of peace and acceptance but also because of a deeply personal connection I have with it. Back in 2013, while my mother was in jail, she wrote me a heartfelt letter that has stayed with me ever since. In that letter, she included the Serenity Prayer and urged me to never cease praying, no matter the circumstances. Her words, written during one of the most challenging times in her life, were a testament to her strength, hope, and unwavering faith. To this day, the prayer reminds me of her resilience and the power of prayer to bring peace, even in the toughest moments. It’s a reminder to seek courage in the face of challenges, accept what we cannot change, and trust that faith and perseverance will guide us through life’s storms.

Grief sucks

Losing my mother to an overdose was one of the hardest things I am still healing from. Grief is a complex, deeply personal experience, and each day brings a new wave of emotions. The pain of losing someone you love, especially under such devastating circumstances, can feel unbearable at times. But through reflection, support, and resilience, healing becomes possible. While the loss will always be a part of me, I am learning to honor my mother's memory, cherish the moments we shared, and find strength in moving forward one step at a time. Grief may not have a timeline, but with time, understanding, and self-compassion, it is possible to find light even in the darkest moments.

Finding Peace When Closure Feels Out of Reach

The pain of not being able to get closure from the parents who caused you so much pain because they are now passed away is a heavy burden to carry. It’s a unique and deeply personal struggle that can leave you feeling stuck, longing for answers or resolutions that may never come. But even in the absence of direct conversations or apologies, healing is still possible. Recognizing your feelings, allowing yourself to grieve—not just for their loss but for the experiences you endured—can be a powerful first step. Journaling your thoughts, seeking therapy, or even writing unsent letters to express what’s in your heart can help you process the weight of unresolved emotions. Closure doesn’t always come from the other person; it can come from within, as you learn to let go of what you cannot change and choose to prioritize your own peace and well-being. It’s not easy, and it takes time, but with self-compassion and support, you can move forward and find freedom from the pain that once held you back.
